Authorities have released the name of the man who died following a single-vehicle crash in Gregory County, South Dakota on Saturday, March 7, 2026. According to a press release from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the victim has been identified as Brett David Oliver, a 53-year-old resident of Gregory, South Dakota.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:47 p.m. along 339th Avenue near 292nd Street, about one mile east and three miles south of Gregory. Preliminary information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates that Oliver was driving a 2016 Honda UTV southbound on 339th Avenue when the vehicle suddenly left the roadway.

Investigators say the UTV entered a steep embankment before rolling into a nearby creek. The exact cause of the crash and the time it occurred remain under investigation. Authorities also reported that the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.

Emergency responders transported Oliver to a nearby hospital after the crash, but despite medical efforts, he later died from the injuries he sustained. Officials say additional details may be released as investigators continue working to determine what factors led to the deadly accident.
