Fatal Crash on I-69 Claims Life of Marion Man, Early Morning Collision Leaves One Dead and Several Injured.
A devastating crash early Tuesday morning on Interstate 69 has claimed the life of a Marion man and left several others injured, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say deputies were dispatched around 6:33 a.m. to the northbound lanes of I-69 near the 272 mile marker after multiple 911 callers reported a serious accident involving a vehicle that had flipped and several people who had been ejected.
Investigators determined that two vehicles were involved in the crash: a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado and a 1996 Chevrolet truck. According to officials, the 1996 truck had become disabled and was parked on the side of the interstate while its occupants waited for family members to arrive and assist them.
As the situation unfolded, authorities say a semi-tractor trailer attempted to change lanes, which forced the driver of the Silverado to veer off the roadway. The Silverado then struck the disabled truck with significant force, causing severe injuries to those involved and creating a chaotic scene along the busy interstate.
One of the victims, 45-year-old Joseph A. Kidwell of Marion, suffered critical injuries in the collision. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, Kidwell was pronounced dead at the scene. Several other individuals who were injured in the crash were transported to a hospital in Fort Wayne for further medical treatment.
Multiple emergency agencies responded to the scene, including Indiana State Police, local fire departments, EMS units, and the Grant County Emergency Management Agency.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact the sheriff’s office. Sheriff Del Garcia also expressed his condolences to the families affected by the tragedy as the community mourns the heartbreaking loss. 🙏
