Birthday Celebration Turns Deadly, One Killed, Two Injured in Decatur Shooting.
DECATUR, Georgia — What began as a birthday celebration ended in tragedy after gunfire erupted overnight outside a rental home in Decatur, leaving one person dead and two others injured.
According to the DeKalb County Police Department, the shooting occurred outside a home on Bluebird Lane, a street located off Columbia Drive. Officers responded to reports of gunfire late at night and discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Authorities say approximately 15 people were gathered at the home for what witnesses described as a birthday celebration when a vehicle reportedly pulled up near the residence. A witness told investigators that someone inside the vehicle opened fire on the group, sending partygoers scrambling for safety as shots rang out in the quiet residential neighborhood.
The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the victim who died in the shooting as 20-year-old Antonio Hardrick. Emergency responders attempted to assist the victims at the scene, but Hardrick succumbed to his injuries. The other two individuals who were shot were transported to a nearby hospital, where police described their injuries as moderate but not life-threatening.
Investigators spent hours at the scene collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses in hopes of identifying the shooter or shooters responsible. Despite the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the suspect or vehicle involved to contact investigators. Community members are also being asked to check home security cameras that may have captured the moments leading up to the deadly attack.
As the investigation continues, family and friends are mourning the loss of Hardrick, whose life was tragically cut short during what was meant to be a joyful celebration.
