Authorities in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, have confirmed the identity of a woman who lost her life in a devastating house fire on Thursday. According to officials, the incident occurred on Horizon Street, located just south of Eutawville, leaving the local community shaken and mourning the loss.
Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle identified the victim as 83-year-old Linda Gardner. He stated that Gardner succumbed to injuries she sustained during the fire. While the exact cause of the blaze has not yet been disclosed, officials are continuing their investigation to determine how the fire started and whether any contributing factors were involved.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene after reports of the fire, but despite their efforts, Gardner could not be saved. The tragic nature of the incident has raised concerns about fire safety, particularly among elderly residents who may be more vulnerable in such emergencies.
Fogle also confirmed that an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday, which may provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding Gardner’s death. Authorities have not yet released additional details, and it remains unclear whether anyone else was present in the home at the time of the fire.
