According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 6:27 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-71 near the U.S. 36 and State Route 37 interchange. Investigators say traffic had slowed or come to a stop due to construction activity in the area when a 2006 Freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by 50-year-old Modou Ngom of Columbus, failed to reduce speed and struck the line of vehicles ahead, triggering a catastrophic chain-reaction collision involving nine vehicles.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where they encountered extensive wreckage and multiple injured individuals. Despite immediate rescue efforts, Dr. Lynnea Soposki, her husband Luke, and their infant son Logan were pronounced dead as a result of the crash. The loss of the young family has left relatives, friends, and the broader community in profound grief.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including factors such as speed, roadway visibility, and driver reaction in the construction zone. Officials have not yet released additional details regarding potential charges as the investigation remains ongoing.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol has urged drivers to exercise extreme caution in work zones and remain alert to sudden traffic changes. As the investigation continues, the community mourns the heartbreaking loss of the Soposki family, remembering them as deeply loved and forever missed.
