CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office has issued a detailed community update addressing confusion surrounding the fatal shooting of Daniel Omarion Carter, 23, of Pageland, emphasizing that the case stems from an earlier physical altercation and remains an active, multi-agency investigation.

According to officials, investigators believe the incident may be connected to a confrontation that occurred on April 11, 2026, in the parking lot of a McDonald’s within Pageland town limits. Video footage of the altercation was later received by authorities on April 13 at approximately 12:51 p.m. The footage was immediately forwarded to the Pageland Police Department, which has primary jurisdiction over the case.

Authorities stated that during the recorded altercation, one male appeared to have an AR-15 style rifle concealed in his pants while allegedly making threats to retrieve it. The video subsequently circulated on social media, fueling widespread concern and escalating tensions among individuals connected to the incident as well as unrelated community members.

Investigators noted that no formal reports of the initial altercation or related incidents were filed with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office at the time, as the matter was being handled by Pageland Police. Officials later confirmed that Pageland authorities identified all individuals involved and planned to obtain arrest warrants on April 13, 2026.

On the morning of April 13, while deputies were actively canvassing the area in response to the shooting investigation, multiple individuals were taken into custody on warrants issued by Pageland Police. Those arrested include Zytaivion N. Fair, 19; Wanda L. Miles, 41; Kevon Joines, 23; Gabriel S. Walker, 24; and Shania L. Little, 23, all of Pageland. Aniyah Blake of Monroe, North Carolina, self-surrendered, while Shakarah Saunders of Monroe remains wanted.

Officials confirmed the investigation remains ongoing and is being jointly handled by the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office and Pageland Police Department. Authorities stressed that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law as the case continues to develop.
