A dangerous high-speed pursuit on Interstate 20 in Atlanta turned deadly Monday afternoon, claiming the life of 51-year-old Chatanna Ohiyesha Patterson and leading to charges against 26-year-old Fre’shun Tyai White of Marietta. The tragic incident unfolded in Fulton County when a Georgia State Patrol trooper attempted to stop White for allegedly speeding at nearly 90 mph in a 55 mph zone.
According to investigators, White initially slowed his Hyundai Elantra before suddenly accelerating and fleeing, driving recklessly across multiple lanes of traffic. He exited onto Boulevard, reentered the interstate, and nearly caused several collisions as troopers attempted to pursue him safely.
The situation escalated when White exited onto Hill Street at a high rate of speed. Authorities believe he lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the roadway and crashed into a gas station parking lot. The impact struck a parked car where Patterson was standing nearby. She suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving her loved ones and the community in deep mourning.
White, along with a passenger in his vehicle and the driver of the parked car, sustained serious injuries and were transported to the hospital. Their current conditions have not been released.
White now faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide in the first degree and serious injury by vehicle. Officials say the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to examine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic crash.
