Mourning in The Crags, Beloved Psychologist Jane Luck and Husband Tragically Killed.

The tranquil community of Plettenberg Bay is reeling after the shocking deaths of Jane Luck (71), a highly respected psychologist, and her husband Rolf Luck (77), in their home in The Crags on Wednesday, 25 March. Their bodies were discovered after security personnel traced a stolen Mercedes-Benz back to their Loerie Glen farm near the N2, following a tip from a vigilant farm worker.

Friends and neighbors have described the loss as “devastating.” Jane Luck was not only a skilled clinician but also a passionate advocate for mental health, trauma counselling, and bereavement support. A friend said, “She was a remarkable woman—knowledgeable, compassionate, and unafraid to speak her mind. She cared deeply about her patients, her community, and the natural world.” Jane also served as chairperson of the Redford Conservancy, championing environmental causes and protecting local biodiversity.

On Psychology Today, Jane described her work with children, teenagers, adults, couples, and families, with a particular focus on mood disorders, addiction, and trauma. Her doctoral research explored the benefits of art therapy for trauma and bereavement, reflecting her holistic and innovative approach to healing.

Southern Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies confirmed that a 34-year-old local man has been arrested and is detained in Uniondale, pending formal charges. Authorities say the motive remains under investigation and urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS app.

For the Crags community, this is more than a crime—it is the loss of a cherished friend, mentor, and protector of both people and nature. Jane Luck’s legacy of compassion, knowledge, and advocacy will continue to inspire those who knew her.
