SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) — A quiet neighborhood in Simpsonville has been shaken by a tragic discovery, as authorities investigate what has been ruled a murder-suicide involving an elderly couple found inside their home earlier this week.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office confirmed that 73-year-old Gloria Jean Dobson and her 75-year-old husband, Daryl Lynn Dobson, were discovered dead at their residence on Appian Circle. Deputies with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the home around 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday after a concerned relative reported not hearing from the couple for an extended period.

Upon entering the residence, deputies found both individuals with gunshot wounds. Officials stated that a firearm was located near one of the victims. Investigators later determined that the couple had likely been deceased for at least a week before they were found.

Following an autopsy and investigation, the coroner’s office ruled Daryl Lynn Dobson’s death a suicide, while Gloria Jean Dobson’s death was ruled a homicide. The findings point to a deeply disturbing domestic incident that ended in tragedy.

In addition to the couple, authorities reported the discovery of two deceased dogs inside the home, as well as a bird that had been decapitated, adding another layer of distress to the already grim scene.

The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to understand the circumstances leading up to the incident. The case has left neighbors and the wider community stunned, as they grapple with the shocking loss and unsettling details surrounding the deaths.
