24-Year-Old Killed After San Francisco Block Party as Community Mourns Rising Gun Deaths.
San Francisco authorities have identified 24-year-old Tertron Johnson as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday night in Visitacion Valley, turning what began as a joyful community gathering into a scene of tragedy and loss.
Johnson was killed just minutes after police responded to a separate deadly shooting in the Sunset District that claimed the life of 22-year-old San Francisco State graduate Samantha Emge. The back-to-back incidents have shaken the city, raising concerns about a troubling spike in gun violence.
Earlier that evening, Johnson had been attending a lively block party at Sunnydale, a public housing complex that has long struggled with violence but had recently seen a decline in homicides. Videos shared on social media show Johnson and his friends filming a music video, surrounded by laughter, dancing, and families enjoying the night as children played nearby.
The celebration was abruptly cut short at approximately 10:43 p.m. when gunfire rang out. Officers arriving at the scene found Johnson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by paramedics, he later died at a nearby hospital.
Friends and loved ones have since gathered to honor his memory, holding candlelight vigils and releasing balloons into the night sky. Known by the nickname “Troop,” Johnson is remembered for his love of music, his vibrant spirit, and the joy he shared with those around him.
As investigations continue, no arrests have been made in Johnson’s case. Community leaders and violence prevention groups are now working to prevent further bloodshed while supporting grieving families in the wake of these devastating losses.
