A heartbreaking tragedy has left a community in mourning after 7-year-old Abel Friday was pronounced dead following a drowning incident at Bruce Meisner Park. Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 6:52 p.m. after reports of a child in the water at the park, located near Lake Hickory. Responders arrived to find Abel submerged roughly 10 feet deep. He was quickly pulled from the water, and lifesaving efforts began immediately as he was rushed to Frye Regional Medical Center.
