A Life Lost in Seconds, Tragic Crash in Wells County Claims Young Life of Gavyn Orlando.

What began as an ordinary afternoon quickly turned into a devastating tragedy on April 5, 2026, leaving families and communities shattered by the sudden loss of 19-year-old Gavyn Orlando of Hartford City. In a matter of seconds, a high-speed crash on a rural road in Wells County changed everything, turning a routine drive into a heartbreaking scene of loss and grief.

At approximately 2:47 p.m., emergency crews responded to a serious crash on County Road 200 West near County Road 1200 South. Authorities reported that 21-year-old Hunter Cooper, also of Hartford City, was driving northbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control after crossing into Wells County. The vehicle veered across the center line and struck a utility pole with tremendous force, snapping it in half before rolling into a nearby field.

The impact was catastrophic. Gavyn Orlando, a passenger in the vehicle, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, 20-year-old Anthony Dalley of Montpelier, was ejected from the vehicle and transported to a hospital with injuries. The driver was also hospitalized.

The sudden and violent nature of the crash has left loved ones in shock, grappling with the loss of a young life taken far too soon. Gavyn’s future, full of promise and possibility, was cut short in an instant.
