Dave Boggs and Jason Day Killed in Tragic US 23 Collision.
A wave of sorrow has gripped the communities of Waverly and Chillicothe following the tragic deaths of Dave Boggs, 76, and Jason Day, 39, who lost their lives in a devastating two-vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the fatal collision occurred on US 23 near milepost 11 in Scioto Township, Ross County, turning what should have been a routine day into one marked by unimaginable loss.
Authorities reported that Boggs, of Waverly, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado when he began traveling the wrong way in the southeast lanes of the highway. In a heartbreaking sequence of events, his vehicle collided head-on with a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander driven by Day, of Chillicothe. The impact was severe and left both vehicles mangled, with neither driver surviving the crash.
Emergency responders arrived swiftly after the call was received at approximately 12:27 p.m., but despite their efforts, both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials confirmed that there were no other occupants in either vehicle, sparing additional families from tragedy.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, working to secure the area and begin a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash. Traffic along US 23 southbound was reduced to one lane for several hours as crews worked diligently.
