A tragic motor vehicle collision in Waldorf has claimed the life of 68-year-old Godfrey Derlonard Scarlett, leaving a community mourning and authorities searching for answers. The fatal crash occurred on the evening of April 8 at approximately 6 p.m. along St. Patrick’s Drive, where emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of a serious accident.

Preliminary investigations reveal that a gray Honda SUV had just exited a nearby car wash and was traveling in the far-right acceleration lane when it was suddenly struck from behind by a white Genesis SUV. The Genesis, reportedly moving at a high rate of speed, collided with significant force, causing both vehicles to spin uncontrollably into the median.

Godfrey Derlonard Scarlett, who was seated in the front passenger seat of the Honda SUV, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His sudden passing has left loved ones devastated, as they come to terms with the heartbreaking loss of a man whose life ended so abruptly.

The driver of the Honda, a 63-year-old woman from Waldorf, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Meanwhile, the driver of the Genesis SUV, a 50-year-old Waldorf man, was transported by ground to a hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
