Deadly Traffic Stop Unravels Horror, Two Santa Rosa Residents Found Murdered in Lake County Investigation.
Authorities are piecing together a chilling sequence of events after a routine traffic stop in Lake County led to the discovery of a suspected double homicide involving two Santa Rosa residents. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victims as 58-year-old Terry Joe Harris and 43-year-old Desiree Carmen Fuentes, whose deaths have left investigators and communities searching for answers.
The case began around 8:50 a.m. Sunday when California Highway Patrol officers pulled over a gray Chevy Suburban for a registration violation along State Route 53 at Dam Road in Clearlake. What initially appeared to be a minor infraction quickly escalated into a grim scene. After the vehicle stopped on 18th Avenue near Oak Street, a passenger, 37-year-old Alex Kenneth Schussolin, allegedly attempted to flee but was swiftly detained. The driver, 32-year-old Jasslynn Pearl Critchett, remained at the scene.
During the stop, an officer noticed blood inside the SUV, prompting a closer inspection. Harris was found unresponsive in the rear passenger area and later pronounced dead. Nearby, officers recovered a firearm believed to have been discarded during the attempted escape.
The investigation deepened when detectives discovered the body of Fuentes down an embankment along State Route 175, roughly 1.5 miles north of the Lake-Mendocino County line. Authorities now believe the violent incident may have originated in Sonoma County before crossing into Lake County.
As investigators work to reconstruct the timeline, the shocking case has left two communities mourning and underscores how quickly an ordinary moment can reveal unimaginable tragedy.
