TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. — Six-month-old Kaybri Robinson of Hammond and 22-year-old Janya T. D. Butler of the Town of Tangipahoa tragically lost their lives in two separate crashes in Tangipahoa Parish, while Resjyne N. Griffin and Franklin B. Turnage were arrested following investigations into the deadly incidents, according to Louisiana State Police Troop L.
Troopers said the first fatal crash occurred on May 22 at approximately 11:50 p.m. along U.S. Highway 51 near LA Highway 1064 in Tickfaw. Preliminary findings revealed that a 2013 Hyundai Elantra driven by 25-year-old Resjyne Griffin traveled off the roadway, entered a ditch, and struck a culvert.
Authorities said Griffin and two juvenile passengers were not properly restrained at the time of the crash. Kaybri Robinson, only six months old, was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries. A 5-year-old passenger sustained moderate injuries, while Griffin also suffered moderate injuries.
Investigators stated that Griffin allegedly showed signs of impairment and was arrested on charges including vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, careless operation, open container violations, no child restraint, and driving without a license.
Just hours later, around 1:30 a.m. on May 23, troopers responded to another fatal crash on LA Highway 16 near Dykes Lane in Amite. Authorities said 22-year-old Janya Butler was driving a 2026 Kia K4 eastbound when the vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with a Ford F-150 before being struck by a Chevrolet Silverado.
Butler, who was unrestrained, died at the scene. Troopers said Franklin B. Turnage, driver of the Silverado, showed signs of impairment and was arrested for DWI, driving while suspended, and no seatbelt violations.
Both crashes remain under active investigation.
