The LaPorte County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Austin M. Vanasdal, 22, of New Carlisle, whose life was tragically cut short in a single-vehicle crash on the night of May 30, 2026. His sudden passing has left family members, friends, and loved ones devastated as they struggle to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
According to authorities, the crash occurred around 10:00 p.m. on County Road 1000 North near County Road 850 East. Investigators reported that Austin was driving a black 2012 GMC Acadia eastbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle crossed left of center, traveled across the westbound lane, and left the roadway. The SUV then struck two trees before coming to rest several hundred feet from the road.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene as quickly as possible, but despite their efforts, Austin, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased. The tragic accident has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Witnesses told investigators they observed the SUV traveling shortly before the crash at what they believed to be a speed significantly above the posted limit. However, officials have emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and that all circumstances surrounding the collision are still being reviewed.
As news of Austin’s passing spread throughout the community, an outpouring of grief and condolences followed. Friends and family are remembering him not for the tragedy that claimed his life, but for the person he was—someone whose presence brought meaning, friendship, and unforgettable memories to those around him.
