Authorities have confirmed that Michael Anthony Boccia, 36, the man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Keshia M. Gonzalez in Manheim Borough, Pennsylvania, has been found dead in Alabama.
According to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office, Boccia was discovered Monday night inside a vehicle near Cullman, Alabama, approximately 45 miles north of Birmingham. Investigators believe he died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials said Boccia contacted Manheim Borough Police by phone around 11 p.m., allegedly threatening to take his own life. Law enforcement officers attempted to keep him on the line while coordinating with emergency dispatchers in Alabama. Despite those efforts, authorities later located him deceased inside his vehicle. The Alabama Bureau of Investigations is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Earlier that day, Boccia had been charged with homicide, simple assault, and weapons violations in connection with the shooting death of 37-year-old Keshia M. Gonzalez, which occurred Monday morning in Manheim Borough.
Court records indicate Boccia had a criminal history in York County, including convictions related to theft, simple assault, unlawful restraint, and stalking stemming from incidents in 2014. He previously served jail time and probation for those offenses.
The discovery of Boccia’s body brings an end to the interstate search for the suspect, but it does not bring closure to the family and loved ones of Keshia Gonzalez, who continue to mourn her tragic loss.
Authorities in both Pennsylvania and Alabama continue to investigate the events leading up to the homicide and Boccia’s subsequent death. While many questions have been answered regarding the suspect’s whereabouts, investigators are still working to establish a complete timeline of the tragic events that unfolded.
The case remains under active review by law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation.
