Gray Court Tragedy, Teen Suspect Arrested After 15-Year-Old Leo Scott Epting Fatally Shot.
Authorities in Gray Court, South Carolina are investigating a tragic shooting that claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy early Saturday morning. According to the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 5:30 a.m. on March 7, 2026, to reports of a gunshot victim on Tanglewood Way.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered a victim lying in the roadway. Despite emergency response efforts, the teenager succumbed to his injuries. The Laurens County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as 15-year-old Leo Scott Epting.
Due to the seriousness of the case, multiple agencies were called in to assist with the investigation. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Child Fatality Task Force joined investigators from the sheriff’s office to help gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. Authorities have stated that details remain limited as investigators work to preserve the integrity of the case.
Law enforcement officials have arrested 18-year-old Ryan Ingersoll of Charlotte, North Carolina in connection with the killing. He faces several charges, including murder, armed robbery, criminal conspiracy, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Officials also confirmed that a juvenile suspect has been detained in North Carolina and is currently awaiting extradition to South Carolina.
Laurens County Sheriff Don Reynolds described the case as a heartbreaking and unnecessary loss of a young life. He expressed sympathy for Leo’s family while praising investigators and assisting agencies, including the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, for their work in quickly identifying and apprehending the suspects as the investigation continues.
