Tragedy in Waxhaw: Police Say Man Fatally Shot Wife Before Taking His Own Life.
A quiet neighborhood in Waxhaw was shaken Thursday afternoon after authorities say a man killed his wife before taking his own life in what investigators believe was a tragic act of domestic violence.
According to the Waxhaw Police Department, officers were called to a residence along Pescott Glen Park, just off Waxhaw-Marvin Road, at approximately 4:15 p.m. after reports of a serious incident inside the home. When officers arrived, they discovered 49-year-old Inol Toussaint in the backyard suffering from what authorities described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Inside the home, officers located his wife, Euster Toussaint, who had also been found deceased upstairs. Investigators say preliminary findings indicate that Inol Toussaint fatally shot his wife inside the residence before going outside and taking his own life moments later.
To assist with the investigation, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was called to the scene. Authorities said detectives are continuing to review evidence and gather information, though officials believe the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Waxhaw Police Chief Dexter Wilson expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, describing it as a devastating act of domestic violence that has deeply impacted the local community. He urged residents to keep the victims’ loved ones in their thoughts during this difficult time.
Community leaders also emphasized that support resources are available for individuals experiencing domestic violence or emotional distress, encouraging those in need to reach out for help and assistance.
