Asheville Police Search for Suspect, 19-Year-Old Wanted After Shooting Leaves Nine People Injured.

Authorities in Asheville are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect connected to a shooting that injured nine people earlier this month. The Asheville Police Department announced that detectives have identified and charged 19-year-old Calobe Leo Workman in connection with the incident.

According to police, the shooting occurred around 3 a.m. on March 8 in the 100 block of North Lexington Avenue, a busy area in downtown Asheville. Investigators say Workman has been charged with discharging a firearm from an enclosure to incite fear. Authorities describe him as a 6-foot-3 Black male with black hair and brown eyes. Police also warn that he should be considered armed and dangerous and urge anyone who sees him not to approach him but to immediately call 911.

Officials reported that seven individuals were struck by stray gunfire or fragments during the shooting. Another person was injured while attempting to reach safety, and one individual suffered a concussion after being physically assaulted during the chaotic incident. Fortunately, all nine victims received medical treatment and were later released.

The shooting occurred during a troubling period of violence in the city. Following this and several other incidents over the span of three days, Esther Manheimer and Jackie Stepp issued a joint statement expressing concern and calling for unity within the community.

City leaders emphasized that while some of the recent incidents appear unrelated, each act of violence deeply impacts families and neighborhoods. Authorities say the Asheville Police Department is working with federal, state, and local partners to identify suspects, hold offenders accountable, and increase police presence in affected areas while urging residents to share information that could help bring those responsible to justice.
