Two Firefighters Injured as Authorities Investigate Cause
Authorities in Morgan County, Alabama, are investigating a devastating house fire that claimed the life of one person and left two firefighters injured on Friday. Officials have since identified one of the victims as Kay Ivey, whose death has left the Lacey’s Spring community in shock and mourning.
The tragic incident occurred on Indigo Lane in the Union Hill area of Lacey’s Spring, where deputies from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office responded alongside members of a volunteer fire department and emergency medical services after reports of a structure fire. When first responders arrived, the home was already heavily engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing from the structure.
Firefighters worked urgently to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties. During the response, two firefighters were injured when bricks from a collapsing wall fell while crews were operating near the burning home. Authorities confirmed that both firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were treated after the incident.
Once the flames were brought under control and the fire was extinguished, emergency crews searched the wreckage of the home. During that search, responders discovered the body of a victim inside the residence. Officials later confirmed the individual as Kay Ivey.
Investigators said the situation was further complicated by reports of a possible gas leak and ammunition discharging due to the intense heat of the fire, creating additional hazards for firefighters working at the scene.
The house was completely destroyed in the blaze, and the exact cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities continue to investigate the incident while the community mourns the loss of Kay Ivey and hopes for answers about the tragic fire.
