Deputy Cruiser Collision Under Investigation: Kentucky State Police Probe Fatal Crash in Boyle County
Kentucky State Police have launched an investigation into a deadly crash that unfolded Tuesday night involving a patrol vehicle from the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office. The collision, which occurred along US-127 near West Shelby Street, claimed the life of a 27-year-old Lancaster man and has prompted a detailed review of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to preliminary findings released by investigators, the deputy was traveling northbound on US-127 and attempting to make a left turn onto West Shelby Street when a southbound vehicle reportedly disregarded a traffic control device and struck the sheriff’s cruiser. The impact caused significant damage and triggered an immediate emergency response.
Authorities identified the driver of the civilian vehicle as Michael Mingey, 27, of Lancaster. First responders transported Mingey to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to those injuries at the hospital.
Officials have not indicated whether the deputy sustained injuries, and no further details about contributing factors have been confirmed at this time. Kentucky State Police continue to examine physical evidence, roadway conditions, and witness accounts as part of the ongoing investigation.
