BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Authorities have identified 60-year-old Michael A. Gauthier as the man found dead inside his apartment on Taylor Street, in a case now being investigated as a homicide. The Kern County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Gauthier died from stab wounds, turning what was initially reported as a possible medical emergency into a criminal investigation.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers were dispatched around 6:18 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, to the 600 block of Taylor Street after receiving a call about an unknown situation inside an apartment. Early information suggested it could have been a medical issue, but upon arrival, officers discovered Gauthier unresponsive.
Further examination at the scene revealed that he had suffered fatal stab injuries. Emergency responders pronounced him dead, and investigators quickly secured the area as a potential crime scene.
