Authorities in Northampton County have identified the 81-year-old woman who was found dead Monday afternoon near Martins Creek in Bangor as Margaret Scherr, a longtime resident of the borough, according to officials.
Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek said Scherr, who lived in the first block of North First Street, collapsed after experiencing a medical event. He confirmed that she was pronounced dead at the scene following the sudden incident.
Lysek ruled the death as due to natural causes, stating that no signs of foul play or external injuries were discovered during the initial examination.
Bangor Borough Police Chief Kevin Jones told lehighvalleylive.com that Scherr’s body was discovered around 3 p.m. near her property along Martins Creek. Emergency responders were quickly dispatched after the discovery was reported by individuals in the area.
Police officers and investigators from the Northampton County Coroner’s Office secured the scene and conducted a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
Authorities emphasized that the incident appears to be isolated and not suspicious in nature, bringing closure to initial concerns raised by residents.
