Brunswick Tragedy: Local Business Owner Killed in Route 2 Crash, Daughter Injured.

BRUNSWICK – The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal one-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday evening in Brunswick as 46-year-old Erik Harris, a longtime resident of the town and owner of Harris Construction of Troy.

According to sheriff’s deputies, Harris was driving on New York State Route 2 (Brunswick Road) near the intersection of Garfield Road at approximately 8 p.m. on June 3 when the crash occurred. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found Harris suffering from severe injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts, he succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traveling with Harris was his 18-year-old daughter, Gisele Harris, who sustained injuries in the crash. Authorities said she was transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment and was later released.

The accident resulted in the temporary closure of Route 2 for several hours as investigators examined the scene and crews worked to clear the roadway. Traffic in the area was significantly impacted throughout the evening.

Harris was known locally through his construction business and his involvement in the community. News of his death has left many residents saddened as friends, family members, and colleagues begin to mourn the unexpected loss.

The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing. Deputies have not yet released additional details regarding what may have led to the collision.
