CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. — New York State Police are actively investigating the death of 63-year-old John J. Murphy of Rouses Point, whose body was discovered inside a residence in Champlain last week under concerning circumstances. The case has drawn increased attention following autopsy results that revealed the cause of death to be asphyxiation due to strangulation.
Troopers responded to 407 Route 9B on Saturday at approximately 7:50 p.m. after receiving a report of a deceased individual. Upon arrival, medical personnel confirmed that Murphy was found unresponsive on a couch inside the home. The Clinton County Coroner was called to the scene and subsequently ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The autopsy, conducted Monday at Glens Falls Hospital, confirmed that Murphy died from asphyxiation caused by strangulation. However, authorities have stated that the official manner of death remains pending as the investigation continues. Detectives are now working to piece together the events leading up to Murphy’s death and determine whether foul play was involved.
State Police are urging members of the public to assist in the investigation. Anyone who may have information, including security camera footage from the surrounding area that could reveal suspicious activity, is encouraged to come forward.
