The Indianapolis community continues to mourn the heartbreaking loss of Brett Scrogham, 23, as authorities announce an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting that claimed his life in a downtown parking garage near the Indiana Convention Center.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), homicide detectives arrested a juvenile suspect on Wednesday following an intensive investigation into the shooting that occurred just after 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Plaza Park Garage in the 100 block of South Capitol Avenue. Due to the suspect’s age, authorities have not publicly released the individual’s name or specific age.
Police say officers responded to reports of gunfire and found Scrogham inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but tragically succumbed to his injuries. Detectives spent days reviewing surveillance footage, collecting evidence, and interviewing witnesses before identifying the juvenile suspect.
Scrogham, a recent graduate of Indiana University Indianapolis, had recently begun building his future and was remembered by friends as an intelligent, ambitious, and kind-hearted young man.
