MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A 52-year-old Macon man, Tony Gales, died following a two-vehicle crash Thursday night at the intersection of Bethel Church Road and Knoxville Road, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. The fatal collision was reported shortly before 10 p.m., and authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
According to investigators, a Nissan Altima was traveling southbound on Knoxville Road when an Audi SUV traveling east on Bethel Church Road entered the intersection and collided with the Nissan. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles and prompted an emergency response from deputies, firefighters, and medical personnel.
Tony Gales, who was a passenger in the Nissan Altima, suffered serious injuries in the crash. First responders transported him to a local hospital for treatment. Despite efforts by medical staff, Gales later died from the injuries he sustained in the collision.
Officials reported that no other injuries were associated with the crash. The drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene as investigators worked to document evidence and determine the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Gales’ next of kin has been notified. Investigators are reviewing witness statements, roadway conditions, and vehicle evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted while emergency crews cleared the scene and authorities conducted their preliminary investigation. At this time, officials have not announced whether charges will be filed or if any additional factors contributed to the crash.
