Robert Murgatroyd, 50, of Zanesville, was killed in a tragic three-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 Friday morning, while authorities identified Ray Guntrum, 33, of New Stanton, Pennsylvania, as the driver whose vehicle reportedly suffered a flat tire before the chain-reaction collision. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 10:33 a.m. on June 5 near milepost 151 in Falls Township, Muskingum County. Investigators said Guntrum was traveling westbound in a 2008 Kia Rondo when the vehicle experienced a flat tire. As he attempted to pull into the median, he lost control and re-entered the roadway, striking Murgatroyd’s 2017 Ford F-150.
The impact forced Murgatroyd’s pickup into the right lane, where it collided with a 2014 International semi-truck driven by Danny Dickson, 69, of Parkersburg, West Virginia. The pickup then traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned. Tragically, Murgatroyd was pronounced dead at the scene by the Muskingum County Coroner.

Although his life was cut short in a devastating accident, those who knew him will remember the moments they shared, the kindness he showed, and the lasting impact he made on the lives around him. His passing is a painful reminder of how precious and fragile life truly is.
Authorities confirmed that neither Guntrum nor Dickson reported any injuries. The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, and no charges have been announced at this time.
Several agencies assisted at the scene, including Falls Township Fire and EMS, the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Muskingum County Coroner’s Office. Westbound Interstate 70 was reduced to one lane during the investigation and cleanup efforts before all lanes reopened at approximately 3 p.m.
