Forever Remembered: Everette L. Ziegler Dies Following Tragic Semi Crash in Thayer County.

 

CHESTER, Neb. — The Thayer County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Everette L. Ziegler, 71, of Superior, who was killed in a devastating two-semi crash Thursday morning at the intersection of Highway 81 and Highway 8 near Chester. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and neighbors grieving the loss of a man whose life touched many throughout the region.

According to the Thayer County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews from the Nebraska State Patrol, Chester Fire and Rescue, and local law enforcement responded to the crash shortly after 10 a.m. Authorities said a westbound semi truck had been stopped at the northeast corner of the intersection before entering the roadway and crossing Highway 81. The vehicle then moved into the path of a southbound semi traveling on the highway.

Investigators reported that Ziegler, who was driving the westbound truck, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. The impact caused him to be ejected from the vehicle. Despite the efforts of first responders, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the southbound semi, a 61-year-old man from Minnesota, was wearing his seat belt and suffered only minor injuries.
