The Fort Bragg community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of three young soldiers—Darius Josiah Stevens, Ricky Rosas, and Marion Kim—who lost their lives in a devastating single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning along U.S. 1 near Apex, North Carolina. Their untimely deaths have left family members, fellow service members, and friends grieving the loss of lives dedicated to service, friendship, and a promising future.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. on the northbound side of U.S. 1 between Friendship Road and NC 540 Toll. Authorities reported that the Infiniti carrying four Fort Bragg soldiers traveled off the roadway before overturning multiple times. Speed was identified as a contributing factor in the crash.
Among those lost was Darius Josiah Stevens, 21, of Spring Lake, who was driving the vehicle and was properly restrained at the time of the accident. Also killed were Ricky Rosas, who was riding in the front passenger seat, and Marion Kim, 19, of Jacinto, California, who was seated in the rear. Both Rosas and Kim were ejected during the rollover. A fourth soldier, who was properly restrained, survived the crash and was transported to WakeMed Raleigh Campus with critical injuries.
As loved ones struggle to process this tragedy, many are choosing to remember the three young men not for the circumstances of their passing, but for the lives they lived. They were soldiers who answered the call to serve their country, young men with dreams, ambitions, and loved ones who cherished them deeply. Their dedication, courage, and commitment to those around them will not be forgotten.
The loss of Darius Stevens, Ricky Rosas, and Marion Kim is a profound reminder of how fragile life can be. As the Fort Bragg community mourns, thoughts and prayers remain with their families, friends, fellow soldiers, and the surviving occupant as they navigate this unimaginable loss. May their memories live on forever, and may they rest in eternal peace.
