ELLENVILLE, NY — A 28-year-old Westbrookville man is in custody and facing a second-degree murder charge following the death of 29-year-old Nicole Izabella Perez, who was found dead inside her apartment in the Village of Ellenville, authorities confirmed.
According to New York State Police Troop F, the investigation began on March 30, 2026, when officers from the Ellenville Police Department conducted a welfare check at a residence on Clinton Avenue. During that check, Perez was discovered unresponsive inside her apartment. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police assumed control of the case, and after further investigation, her death was ruled a homicide. Authorities identified 28-year-old Michael David Carman as the primary suspect and determined that he had fled the state of New York.
Working alongside the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office and law enforcement agencies in Florida, investigators tracked Carman to Clay County, where he was taken into custody. An arrest warrant charging him with second-degree murder had been issued by Ulster County Court Judge Bryan E. Rounds.
Carman was held as a fugitive from justice before being extradited back to New York on April 13, 2026. He is currently being held at the Ulster County Jail.
He is scheduled to be arraigned before Ulster County Court on April 15, 2026, at 9 a.m., as the investigation continues and prosecutors prepare to move forward with the case.
