Alejandro Sierra Gutierrez, 33, of Vale, and Jamar Louis Barnett Mishoe, 36, of Concord, were tragically killed in a devastating wrong-way crash in Lincoln County early Sunday morning. The fatal collision, which ended with both vehicles engulfed in flames, has left families, friends, and communities grieving the loss of two lives taken far too soon. Investigators with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol believe impairment may have been a contributing factor in the deadly wreck.

According to authorities, the crash occurred shortly after midnight on June 21 near Sifford Road on N.C. Highway 16. Troopers say a 2017 Ram pickup driven by Gutierrez was traveling north in the southbound lanes when it collided head-on with a 2021 Mercedes van driven by Mishoe.

The impact was catastrophic. Both vehicles burst into flames after the collision, creating a horrific scene for first responders. Despite emergency efforts, both drivers succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

As news of the tragedy spread, loved ones shared heartfelt memories of Jamar Louis Barnett Mishoe, affectionately known by many as “Hood Barnett.” One emotional tribute read: “Hood Barnett, I really have no words… so many memories and arguments we’ve had. The last time I saw you out randomly, you told me how proud you were of me and that I’ve come a long way. This hit so differently.”

Troopers conducted their on-scene investigation for more than three hours while Highway 16 remained closed. The investigation remains ongoing as family and friends mourn the heartbreaking loss of both men.
