Late-Night Moped Crash Turns Fatal, Investigation Underway in Brentwood After Rider Succumbs to Injuries.
Authorities in Brentwood are investigating a tragic crash that claimed the life of a 28-year-old moped rider following a late-night collision earlier this week. The victim, Edwin Castillo-Jiminez of Hyattsville, died on March 17, 2026, after sustaining critical injuries in the incident.
According to officials, the crash occurred around 10:20 p.m. on March 14 along Bladensburg Road at 40th Place. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found Castillo-Jiminez severely injured. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he fought for his life for several days before ultimately succumbing to his injuries.
Preliminary findings from the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit indicate that Castillo-Jiminez may have lost control of his moped before colliding with a pickup truck. The exact cause of the loss of control remains unclear and is currently under active investigation. Authorities have not reported any contributing factors such as weather, speed, or road conditions at this time.
Importantly, officials confirmed that no one inside the pickup truck was injured during the crash. The driver has remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with investigators as they work to piece together what led to the fatal collision.
The incident has left the local community shaken, as loved ones mourn the sudden and devastating loss of a young life. Investigators are urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward and assist in determining the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
