KATY, Texas — Family members, friends, and members of the Katy community are mourning the tragic loss of Darius Phillips, who was shot and killed during a violent altercation at a house party early Sunday morning. The fatal incident has prompted an active homicide investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office as authorities work to identify and locate the suspect responsible.
According to investigators, deputies were dispatched to the 24600 block of Sandal Springs Drive shortly after 12:15 a.m. following reports of a disturbance involving numerous individuals attending a large gathering. While emergency dispatchers remained on the phone with a caller, multiple gunshots were heard outside the residence, escalating what had already become a chaotic scene.
When law enforcement officers arrived, they found Phillips suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later identified the victim as 45-year-old Darius Phillips.
Detectives said the gathering consisted primarily of family members and invited guests when a large fight broke out among several attendees. Preliminary findings indicate that one individual involved in the confrontation left the immediate area, retrieved a firearm from a nearby vehicle, and returned before allegedly targeting Phillips and firing multiple shots.
Investigators have reportedly recovered video footage showing the suspect participating in the altercation before the shooting occurred. Authorities believe the attack was intentional and directed specifically at Phillips rather than being a random act of violence.
At this time, detectives continue interviewing witnesses, reviewing surveillance footage, and collecting evidence to establish the full sequence of events. Officials have stated that the suspect has not yet been formally identified, but information will be released once an arrest warrant is obtained.
As loved ones grieve the sudden loss of Darius Phillips, community members are hoping for answers and justice. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation remains ongoing.
