The Horn Lake community is mourning the heartbreaking and untimely loss of 20-year-old Kejuan Williams, whose life was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting late Friday night. Family members, friends, and loved ones are struggling to come to terms with the devastating news as they remember a young man whose future held endless possibilities.
According to the Horn Lake Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence on Chickasaw Cove at approximately 11:15 p.m. on June 13, 2026, following reports of a male who had been shot. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered Kejuan Williams suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators quickly launched an investigation and were able to identify the suspected shooter as 19-year-old Elijah Avent of Horn Lake. Authorities stated that Avent allegedly fled the scene following the shooting but was later located and taken into custody. He has been charged with one count of murder and is currently being held at the DeSoto County Jail without bond.
Police have indicated that the incident appears to be isolated and that the victim and suspect were previously acquainted. At this time, investigators have not released a motive, and the case remains under active investigation.
