BATON ROUGE — A tragic early morning shooting has left a community shaken after 29-year-old Anthony Wesley Jr.was found dead outside his apartment at the Jefferson Lakes Apartments complex. According to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene around 5:45 a.m. Sunday, where they discovered Wesley suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.

Authorities have arrested 32-year-old Riddick Franklin in connection with the killing. Investigators say Franklin admitted to deputies that he shot Wesley during a confrontation tied to a previous relationship between Wesley and Franklin’s girlfriend.

According to an arrest affidavit, Franklin told deputies he initially went to Wesley’s apartment intending to “cease fire” and put an end to ongoing tensions. However, the situation escalated, and he allegedly shot Wesley instead. After the incident, Franklin reportedly returned home, dismantled the weapon, and washed his clothes in an attempt to conceal evidence.

Franklin has since been booked on multiple charges, including second-degree murder, illegal use of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, and obstruction of justice. The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue to gather evidence and piece together the full sequence of events.

The loss of Anthony Wesley Jr. has left family, friends, and neighbors mourning a life cut short in an act of violence that has deeply impacted the Baton Rouge community.
