Authorities in Phoenix are asking for the public’s help after a woman was found dead near a canal early Friday morning in a case that is now under active investigation.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded just before 8 a.m. to the area near 24th Street and Oak Street after receiving reports of an unresponsive person. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered 42-year-old Alex Fleming lying near the canal with visible signs of trauma.

Emergency responders quickly assessed the situation, but Fleming was pronounced dead at the scene. The discovery prompted an immediate response from homicide detectives, who arrived to begin processing the area and gathering evidence.
