Deadly I-20 Pursuit Ends in Tragedy: Chatanna Patterson Killed in High-Speed Crash at Atlanta Gas Station.

A dangerous high-speed pursuit on Interstate 20 in Atlanta turned deadly Monday afternoon, claiming the life of 51-year-old Chatanna Ohiyesha Patterson, an innocent bystander who was struck during the crash. The incident unfolded in Fulton County when a Georgia State Patrol trooper attempted to stop a speeding Hyundai Elantra traveling at nearly 90 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Authorities say the driver, identified as 26-year-old Fre’shun Tyai White of Marietta, initially appeared to comply before suddenly accelerating and fleeing. White reportedly drove recklessly, crossing multiple lanes, exiting and reentering the interstate, and narrowly avoiding collisions as troopers attempted to keep up.

The pursuit came to a tragic end when White exited onto Hill Street at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle. The Hyundai crossed the roadway and crashed into a gas station parking lot, slamming into a parked car. Patterson, who was standing nearby, was fatally struck in the impact, leaving her family and community devastated.

White, along with a passenger in his vehicle and the driver of the parked car, sustained serious injuries and were transported to the hospital. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.

White now faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide in the first degree and serious injury by vehicle. Authorities continue to investigate the crash, emphasizing the severe consequences of reckless driving and fleeing from law enforcement.
