Breckenridge Teens Arrested, Three Charged with Lying to Police in 2025 Shooting Death Investigation.
BRECKENRIDGE, Texas — Three Breckenridge teenagers have been arrested for allegedly providing false information to police during the investigation into the 2025 death of 19-year-old Zackery Smith, a case initially ruled a suicide. Mark Campbell Jr., Tylen Collins, and Oliziah Reyes were taken into custody Thursday and booked into Stephens County Jail on charges related to falsifying statements to law enforcement.
Smith was found shot inside his Breckenridge apartment in October 2025. His mother, Brandy Wallace, has publicly questioned the circumstances of his death, citing inconsistencies in timelines, statements, and evidence collected at the scene. “Yesterday would have been his 20th birthday. Unfortunately, he is not here with us to celebrate,” Wallace said.
Authorities say one of the teens was inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, left to retrieve the other two, and returned before the 911 call was made. Wallace pointed out details in the apartment that raised concern, including blood in the bathroom and items in the sink that did not appear consistent with a suicide. Additionally, discrepancies regarding the location of the gunshot wound and the trajectory of the bullet have fueled ongoing questions.
The arrests mark a significant development in a case that has long troubled the Smith family. Wallace is urging anyone with information about that night to come forward to help clarify the circumstances surrounding her son’s death. Police have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
Authorities are continuing to examine the evidence and witness statements to determine if additional charges or leads may emerge.
