The Birdtail Sioux First Nation community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jodi Tianna Bunn, 22, whose life was tragically cut short in a fatal hit-and-run collision on the night of May 29, 2026. Her sudden and devastating passing has left family members, friends, and community residents grieving the loss of a young woman whose future was filled with promise, dreams, and endless possibilities.
According to the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS), officers responded at approximately 10:58 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of a vehicle allegedly being driven recklessly throughout the community. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle traveling at high speeds and engaging in dangerous maneuvers that raised serious concerns for public safety.
Just minutes later, at approximately 11:11 p.m., police were notified that a pedestrian had been struck on a roadway and had sustained critical injuries. Responding officers arrived at the scene and discovered Jodi Tianna Bunn suffering from severe injuries consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle.
Officers immediately began administering life-saving measures while awaiting emergency medical personnel. Despite their efforts, Jodi was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves throughout Birdtail Sioux First Nation, where loved ones are remembering Jodi for the person she was rather than the circumstances of her death. Family and friends describe her as a caring, vibrant, and compassionate young woman who brought joy to those around her. Her kindness, laughter, and presence touched many lives, making her loss all the more painful.
Investigators later located a damaged vehicle believed to be connected to the incident and arrested Precious Jewel Saulteaux, who now faces multiple charges, including operation while impaired causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, and failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing death.
As the legal process moves forward, the community continues to honor Jodi’s memory. Her life mattered deeply, and her loss will be felt for years to come.
