Tragic Loss in Houston, Austin Woman Shot Dead While Helping Cancer-Stricken Friend.
Houston authorities are investigating the tragic killing of 61-year-old Marietta Allison, an Austin resident who was fatally shot in northwest Houston while visiting a friend battling cancer. According to the Houston Police Department, Allison was found around 11:45 p.m. on West 20th Street near Lawrence Street with a gunshot wound to the neck. She was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Detectives believe Allison was walking from her parked car to a friend’s home when she was confronted by a suspect during a robbery. A vehicle connected to Allison was reported missing from the scene. Allison’s friend, Cassie Daniel, recounted that Allison had been circling the block in search of a parking spot when the shooting occurred. “We heard the gunshot and were later told that her heart stopped immediately when he shot her in the neck,” Daniel said. The suspect reportedly stole Allison’s purse, took her car key, and drove off in Daniel’s vehicle.
Police later located the stolen vehicle, which led to a pursuit that ended when the suspect barricaded himself inside an empty apartment along the Southwest Freeway. Eighteen-year-old Darius DeWayne Hall was taken into custody and charged with capital murder, evading arrest, and tampering with physical evidence. Court records indicate Hall had previously been under juvenile community supervision for serious offenses, including aggravated robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
A Harris County judge ordered that Hall be held without bond. The incident has left friends, family, and the community grieving the loss of Allison, who was remembered as a caring individual selflessly visiting a friend in need. Authorities continue to urge anyone with additional information to assist in the ongoing investigation.
