CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A tragic crash on U.S. Route 50 has claimed the life of 19-year-old Ryan Hayes of Chillicothe, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The collision occurred Sunday evening, April 19, 2026, at approximately 8:10 p.m., at the intersection of US 50 and Veterans Parkway in Scioto Township, Ross County.
Troopers say Hayes was operating a 2001 Honda VT750 motorcycle westbound on US 50 when a 2022 Hyundai Palisade, driven by 79-year-old Lois Jones of Portsmouth, attempted to make a left turn onto Veterans Parkway while traveling eastbound. The motorcycle struck the left front of the SUV before sliding off the right side of the roadway.
Emergency responders from Union Township EMS arrived quickly and transported Hayes to Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe. Despite their efforts, he was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash. His death has left family, friends, and the local community grieving the loss of a young life taken far too soon.
Lois Jones was not injured in the incident, according to authorities. No additional details regarding contributing factors have been released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Union Township Fire and EMS, along with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office. Westbound lanes of US 50 were closed for approximately two hours as crews worked to clear the scene and conduct their investigation.
Officials continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
