NEW BEDFORD — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred Thursday morning on Mill Street in New Bedford. The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that the deceased was Amy Asker, a 67-year-old resident of New Bedford.
According to investigators, New Bedford Police and emergency medical personnel responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck near 79 Mill Street at approximately 10:10 a.m. on June 4. Upon arrival, first responders discovered Asker lying in the roadway with severe injuries. Despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials stated that a tractor-trailer involved in the incident was found a short distance away from where Asker was located. The truck operator remained at the scene and has been fully cooperative with investigators throughout the ongoing inquiry.
The District Attorney’s Office released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the tragedy. Preliminary findings indicate that Asker had just returned to her residence on Mill Street in a taxi moments before the accident occurred. Investigators reviewed video footage from the cab, which has provided important information about her movements prior to the collision.
