An inquest has opened into the death of 36-year-old Piotr Ignatiuk, who was found dead on the banks of the River Test in Southampton, shortly after making a phone call to his partner. The tragic discovery has left family and investigators seeking answers as authorities examine the circumstances surrounding his final moments.

During the hearing held in Winchester, the court was told that Ignatiuk, who lived on Wimpson Lane, had contacted his partner, Joanna Konefal, on February 23. In the call, he reportedly told her that he was at Redbridge Causeway, a location near the River Test. Concerned about the situation, emergency services were alerted and quickly responded to the area.

However, when first responders arrived at the scene, Ignatiuk was sadly found deceased along the riverbank. The unexpected nature of the discovery prompted authorities to launch an investigation and open formal inquest proceedings to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

A post-mortem examination was carried out by consultant pathologist Dr. Matthew Sommerlad. According to the findings presented in court, the cause of death was determined to be hanging. While the initial hearing established key facts, further details surrounding the events leading up to Ignatiuk’s death are still being reviewed.

Senior coroner Christopher Wilkinson presided over the hearing and, after confirming the preliminary medical findings, formally adjourned the inquest.
