IMPD Arrests Suspect in Deadly Case, Travis Wolfe Charged with Murder of Kimberly Stewart.

Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Violent Crimes Unit have arrested 45-year-old Travis Wolfe in connection with the murder of 51-year-old Kimberly Stewart. The arrest follows an intensive investigation that began late Tuesday night after officers discovered Stewart unresponsive in the backyard of a residence on the city’s southwest side.

According to police, officers from the IMPD Southwest District were dispatched at approximately 11 p.m. on March 10, 2026, to the 1300 block of South Lynhurst Drive following reports of an unresponsive woman. When officers arrived at the scene, they located Stewart in the backyard of the home with injuries consistent with significant trauma. Sadly, she had already died by the time police reached the scene.

IMPD homicide detectives quickly launched an investigation, canvassing the area for surveillance video, collecting potential forensic evidence, and speaking with witnesses and neighbors in an effort to piece together what happened. Through various investigative techniques, detectives soon identified Travis Wolfe as a potential suspect in Stewart’s death.

Less than three hours after the initial discovery, detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit located Wolfe near East 19th Street and North Drexel Avenue. With assistance from the IMPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, Wolfe was taken into custody without incident on an outstanding warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

Following several hours of interviews and the development of additional evidence, detectives consulted with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. Just before 1 a.m. on March 12, Wolfe was formally arrested on a murder charge in connection with Stewart’s death. Authorities emphasized that the charges remain allegations, and Wolfe is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
