The St. Landry Parish community is mourning the devastating loss of Marlee Norse, 18, whose life was tragically cut short in a fatal crash that authorities say involved Zayd Parra, 20, and Benjamin Daigle, 38. As family and friends grieve the heartbreaking death of Marlee, both Parra and Daigle have been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation after toxicology reports allegedly showed they were impaired at the time of the collision. The tragedy has left loved ones searching for answers while remembering a young woman whose life ended far too soon.
According to Louisiana State Police, the crash occurred on April 24 when Parra allegedly failed to yield and struck the Chevrolet vehicle in which Marlee was riding as a passenger. Following the impact, Parra’s vehicle traveled off the roadway and into a ditch. The Chevrolet then continued forward and collided with a third vehicle driven by Daigle, creating a devastating chain of events that forever changed multiple lives.
Marlee suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. While initial reports suggested she was not wearing a seatbelt, investigators later determined that she had been properly restrained at the time of the crash. This updated information provided important clarification for her grieving family and the community.
Authorities stated that both Parra and Daigle were injured in the collision and received treatment at a local hospital before being arrested. Parra faces charges of vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular negligent injuring, and failure to yield. Daigle faces a charge of driving under the influence, first offense, with child endangerment.
As the investigation continues, those who knew and loved Marlee are choosing to focus on her life rather than the circumstances of her death. She is remembered for her bright smile, caring heart, and the happiness she brought to others. Though gone too soon, Marlee Norse’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
