AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. — The Aiken County community is grieving the devastating loss of Kahlil Simmons, 17, who was identified as the victim in a fatal shooting Monday evening on Goodman Road in Jackson, an incident that has left one other person injured and authorities searching for answers.

According to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 7:13 p.m. after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Officials confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted later this week in Newberry as part of the ongoing investigation into his death.

Maj. Jason Griffin with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office stated that deputies were dispatched shortly after 6:30 p.m. to the 100 block of Goodman Road following reports of a shooting involving two individuals. Upon arrival, deputies located two male victims. While Simmons tragically died at the scene, the second victim was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The condition of the injured individual has not been publicly disclosed.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement launched an extensive search effort. Bloodhounds and a drone team were deployed to comb the surrounding area for potential suspects or evidence. Investigators and forensic units remained on scene for hours, carefully processing the area as they worked to piece together what led to the violence.

At this time, authorities have not released any suspect information, and the case remains under active investigation. Officials are urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward.
