Linn County Highway 34 Tragedy, Kayla Fonseca and Ashley Fraley Killed in Devastating Head-On Crash.
LINN COUNTY, Ore. — A tragic and devastating crash on Highway 34 has claimed the lives of Kayla Marie Fonseca, 35, of Sweet Home, and Ashley Sue Fraley, 31, of Lebanon, following a violent head-on collision Saturday evening that has left families shattered and the community in deep mourning.
According to Oregon State Police, the crash occurred on April 11, 2026, at approximately 6:43 p.m. near milepost 14. Preliminary findings indicate that a gray Hyundai Elantra, driven by 55-year-old Rebecca Estelle Fonseca, was traveling westbound when it hydroplaned on the roadway. Investigators say the loss of traction caused the vehicle to cross into the eastbound lane, directly into the path of oncoming traffic.
The Hyundai then collided head-on with a blue BMW driven by Ashley Sue Fraley. The impact was catastrophic, leaving both vehicles severely damaged and scattering debris across the roadway. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where they worked urgently to assist those involved.
Authorities confirmed that Kayla Marie Fonseca, a passenger in the Hyundai, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ashley Sue Fraley, the driver of the BMW, also succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased, marking a heartbreaking loss for both families and their communities.
Rebecca Estelle Fonseca sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The highway remained closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene and worked to determine the full circumstances of the crash.
As the investigation continues, the Linn County community is left grieving the sudden and tragic loss of two lives taken far too soon, a painful reminder of how quickly tragedy can unfold on the road.
